How to Participate
![]() |
Beginning in the spring of 2006, Richmond residents can participate in citywide visioning sessions and workshops.
View the visual timeline (.pdf, 144k) of the General Plan update process to see how the community workshops are part of a larger effort to gather feedback and ideas from the public. (Click here to view the timeline as a larger JPEG file.)
Community Workshops:
We are creating a General Plan that will reflect the ideas of everybody in Richmond. In order to make sure that this happens, the General Plan team wants to hear from you. Community workshops are a great way for everyone to come together and get involved. Workshops will be held throughout the city at key points in the planning process to give residents a forum to voice their questions, ideas, and concerns and to learn more about what is happening with the plan.
Photos and summaries from these workshops will be made available to the public on the General Plan website, at future community workshops, and through the City Planning Department.
Please check below to find out when the next workshop is taking place near you.
Upcoming Community Workshops:
More information on upcoming community workshops will be added soon.

Plan Van:

The General Plan team is taking planning to the streets and to you! The General Plan Van will be out in the community on several Saturdays during the early summer months. Each day, the Plan Van will stop at two locations to provide residents with information about the planning process, events, and issues and to get your input.
Please check the Plan Van schedule to find out when it is stopping in your neighborhood.

Stakeholder/Focus Group Interviews:
Everyone in Richmond has a stake in our future. In order for the General Plan team to better understand the critical issues facing us, we are convening focused discussion sessions on issues relevant to the General Plan Update, such as the environment, housing, and business.
Selected community leaders and representatives from nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, public agencies, and the Richmond business community will be invited to participate and help provide important background information.
The input gathered at these meetings, along with information gathered through other background research, will be summarized and made available to the public on the General Plan website, at community workshops, and through the City Planning Department.
